Indeed, its a rare piece of information where you find the location of Muttom synagogue given, opposite to the St. Mary's Forane Church. We have other reports that indicate the existence of the site in early 19th century, so the dates also match.CONTACT ME (Dr. Laju Paul K.)https://www.blogger.com/profile/14049854691657257465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675882731831918055.post-17205084803516998822020-05-10T09:09:26.349-07:002020-05-10T09:09:26.349-07:00During the reign of the Rajas of Kochi, the Chert...During the reign of the Rajas of Kochi, the Cherthala region was known as Karappuram. The Raja gifted tracts of fertile land in the village of Vettakkal(8 Kilometres from Muttom)in the Karappuram area to a Jewish Kocha. Later, during the reign of Marthanda Varma ,Karappuram fell into the hands of Travancore. However, Vettakkal continued to be under the Jewish Kocha landlords. The lives of the tenants under these landlords were often oppressive.
After the formation of Israel, the members of this family made Aliyah.Currently, the Vettakkal Public Health Center operates from the former Kocha residence in Vettakkal.

https://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B4%B5%E0%B5%86%E0%B4%9F%E0%B5%8D%E0%B4%9F%E0%B4%95%E0%B5%8D%E0%B4%95%E0%B5%BD
drsabuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00183290616116455978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675882731831918055.post-81738752745446192692020-04-23T21:53:35.829-07:002020-04-23T21:53:35.829-07:00Probably this synagogue was located opposite the S...Probably this synagogue was located opposite the St. Mary's Forane Church (Muttathu palli)in Muttomdrsabuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00183290616116455978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675882731831918055.post-78315846105610455182020-04-23T21:44:46.962-07:002020-04-23T21:44:46.962-07:00It is true that there are several places in Kerala...It is true that there are several places in Kerala which bear the name Muttom/Muttam.
But,there was definitely a Synagogue and a colony of Jews in Muttom,Cherthala(Alappuzha district). This was located in the northern part of the erstwhile princely state of Travancore.
This is what Lt. Even the location of Muttom is disputed as there are multiple sites in Kerala known by the same name.
